FAQ: IS COACHING OR THERAPY RIGHT FOR YOU?

I take my ethical obligations and scope of practice seriously. ​
 

Coaching isn't a replacement for therapy. As a general rule, if your mental health is substantially interfering with your day-to-day functioning: therapy is the best fit for now. Coaching can be an amazing add-on or supplement to therapy once you're back to baseline.

​

Examples of limited day-to-day functioning might include (but not limited to): unable to work or follow through on work/social commitments, current flashbacks, extreme isolation, not getting out of bed, and dramatic changes in hygiene, sleep, or eating routine.

 


Keep in mind, the categories below don't cover every potential scenario or human, so thanks for understanding this is just a general overview!

 Significant mental health challenges

Untreated PTSD, Bipolar, Major Depressive Disorder, BPD, ASPD, cPTSD.

If you've never received treatment for these diagnoses and/or they're currently substantially interfering with your life, therapy or psychiatrist intervention is necessary prior to coaching. 

​

Coaching is often an excellent complement to therapy once you've stabilized in therapy.

Note: I recognize the DSM can be incredibly stigmatizing

Neurodivergence 

ADHD, ASD, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia

I accept and welcome neurodivergent clients.

​

Many coaches are not equipped to support neurodivergent clients.

However, as a coach with ADHD, I've specifically developed ADHD-friendly resources as part of my practice.

​

I am extremely mindful of making my content and approach accessible and digestible for neurodivergent clients, and also extremely open to taking feedback and adjusting my approach accordingly 

​

Of course, therapy with a qualified, specialized professional will best be suited for addressing neurodivergent-specific struggles/challenges.

Other mental health challenges

Including, but not limited to: Mild depression, anxiety, attachment/development trauma, OCD.

So long as these are not currently substantially interfering with day-to-day functioning, these mental health challenges can be worked with in coaching.

 

That means, we won't be directly addressing them, but I will recognize them as part of the broader holistic picture of you, and your current capacity.

​

Some clients  even make finding a therapist a goal of our coaching, but want to put it down the road a little and get started with coaching first.
